Pre-rental vehicle inspection
A joint inspection at pickup protects both the Member and the Provider, and is a step well worth the few extra minutes it takes.
What happens during inspection
Prior to departure, the Member and the Provider complete a walk-around of the vehicle together, documenting its condition with photographs or video, including existing scratches, wheel condition, interior condition, and fuel or charge level.
Purpose of the inspection
This documentation serves as the baseline used to assess any new damage at return. Vehicles without a documented pre-rental condition can lead to disputes over pre-existing wear.
Independent documentation
Taking independent photographs and video during the joint inspection, in addition to the Provider's documentation, is recommended. Independent records provide protection in the event of a disagreement about damage at return.
Items to check
- Existing scratches, dents, or interior wear
- Tire condition and spare or repair kit
- Fuel or battery charge level
- Presence of all agreed features or add-ons
Remote or delivered pickups
Where the vehicle is delivered rather than collected in person, the same inspection process applies with the Provider. Review of the vehicle prior to acceptance remains available.
